Markdown Extension for Brackets

Markdown is a lightweight markup language that allows you to create HTML using simple symbols. For example, doing *beer* creates an italic-styled HTML wrapper for the word. Markdown is a great way to accept user-generated content on a site without having to worry about the complexities of HTML.

Brackets architect, Glenn Ruehle, created an extension to help make using Markdown easier. Simply install his extension directly from the GitHub and when you open any .MD file, you will find a new panel that contains a live preview of your Markdown text. It’s incredibly helpful and I plan on using it whenever working on my ReadMe files for GitHub!

Does it support the GitHub Flavored MarkDown?

This is an exceeding nice addition to MarkDown.

    Hi Sandra,

Yes, the extension supports GitHub flavored markdown. GitHub-specific items like SHAs and repro references don’t work, but everything else does.

I would like to change the css used to render markdown script.
You mention that you use the swiss them from
I’ve tried to compare the markdown.css you use (from C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Brackets\extensions\user\gruehle.markdown-preview) with the swiss.css but can’t see really the common part.
So question: If I want to change my layout and use and other markdown css themes (from how should I proceed ?
Thanks very much for your help and this great contribution

Is there any way to have the markdown preview side by side with the editor, instead of on the lower half?

Is there a way to get it to show the preview on the right side instead of below? Most of us are using widescreen displays 🙂

I’m also looking to find a way for that kind of setup. Because there isn’t much space below for the preview window.

I’ve search around and found this post. I love brackets and markdown , I don’t want to move away from it just because the markdown preview plugin preview window is below the editor.

My temporary remedy for this was…

Rotated by widescreen display, then set the display properties of my Nvidia card and rotated it clock-wise.

And so now, I have a bigger space for my preview window.

This is so awesome and useful. The fact that it also supports GitHub-flavoured markdown is the cherry on top!
